Start Clean Eating When Traveling

It is sooooo hard to clean eat on the road! My family and I are on the road a lot. We do our best to eat clean and toxin free. It isn't always perfect, but we try to make the best decisions. Here are 5 helpful tips to eat clean on the road.

1. Plan ahead! Prepare food ahead of time for the duration of your trip. Make sure to include both meals and snacks. One time I prepared a whole week's worth of food ahead of time to bring on the road. That week we ate a lot of clean baked goods, but it worked!

2. Skip the drive thru! Avoid fast food restaurants at all costs. You can not clean eat there. Instead, make a quick stop to the grocery store. You have a much bigger selection too!

3. Get it plain. When at a sit down restaurant, order foods without sauces, seasonings, and dressings. All three of those are full of hidden toxins. Order veggies plain, and ask for fresh fruit (not canned). I like to order salads with plain nuts, plain meat, and fruit. Avoid mashed potatoes (they are usually boxed or have hidden seasoning). Avoid french fries (most are full of additives and fried in hydrogenated oil). And always order water. Unless you can see the juice label to make sure it is pure juice, avoid juice. Remember, you can do it!

4. Make it about relationships. As a kid, my favorite thing about traveling was the junk food. Yes, I believe God created us to enjoy food, but I also believe He wants us to take care of our bodies. So instead of stopping at that favorite ice cream store, stop at a lake front or park and make memories not revolved around food.

5. Have a positive attitude. What you focus on, you fuel. If you spend any thought in feeling bad for yourself because you are choosing not to eat processed artificial fake food, then you are setting yourself up to fail. If you focus on the benefit of your choices then you will be much healthier and happier.
